Get to Know WWS:
The History
World Wide Slash started off as the in-person slash convention ConneXions, and then the virtual slash convention DC-Slash.
ConneXions was originally started by founders April Valentine and Marion McChesney in 1998 to provide an East Coast slash convention, running annually until 2005. After a hiatus, the Con returned in 2015 as a biannual convention. The final in-person convention was held in 2019, with no plans of an in-person convention in 2021. The con runners pivoted to create an online social group known as DC-Slash (after the DC metro area) to continue providing a space for East Coast slash fans to gather and chat.
And then the pandemic hit. With more demand for online events, DC-Slash expanded to the convention scene once more, run by duo Kerguelen Avon and Aaronantium. Starting in 2021, DC-Slash started hosting annual online conventions through a combination of Zoom and Discord.
Following five successful conventions, the Con Com felt it was time for a name change following years of being confused for a DC Comics only convention. After receiving suggestions from the DC-Slash community, DC-Slash was renamed to World Wide Slash in reference to it’s growing international base.
